This is an original late-1800s Cassell's National Library edition of The Diary of Samuel Pepys (1668)—basically a Victorian "pocket classic" with one of those gorgeous, overly decorative covers they loved back then. The back even has a full advertisement for "Monkey Brand Soap," because apparently in the 1880s your book also doubled as a cleaning-supply billboard.
The book definitely shows its age: worn spine, frayed edges, a school library stamp inside, and some of that old-paper coloring we pretend is "patina" instead of just being old. But the binding is hanging in there, and it still displays beautifully. If you like decorative antique books, quirky Victorian ads, or Pepys being nosy about life in the 1660s, this is a great piece.
I'm not a rare-book expert—just someone who picks cool old things—so please look at all the photos for exact condition. Sold as-is, antique charm and all.
